The dialogue is filled with banter and Alosa is incredibly witty and clever. The characters are a lot of fun to read about. While the book isn’t filled with non-stop action it is still hard to set down as the writing is good and the fast pace is incredibly consistent. The plot is very thrilling and romance is pretty central to the plot, but since I love the way Tricia Levenseller writes romance this didn’t bother me like it normally would. Alosa gets herself kidnapped by a different group of pirates so she can find one of three maps that will lead to an island of treasure.

The plot is really fun, but it does carry over to the next book, so I would recommend having the sequel on hand. Daughter of the Pirate King was such a fun and fast paced read that I devoured it in less than two days. Her books are filled with banter and she is the queen of writing slow burn romances that I actually love to read. Tricia Levenseller is an incredible author and her writing is incredibly captivating and fun to read. I was taken by surprise with how much I enjoyed The Shadows Between Ussince it had romance central to the plot. When I realized it was by Tricia Levenseller it was a no-brainer. I picked up a copy of this book because lately I have really loved books set on the seaand this book also had morally grey characters. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King. More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate, Riden. Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map-the key to a legendary treasure trove-seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship. There will be plenty of time for me to beat him soundly once I’ve gotten what I came for.
