There's not even in an inclination of something possibly brewing between the two in Kristin Hannah's novel. "There will always be a TullyandKate." Do Tully and Johnny end up together? All you have to do is remember Firefly Lane, and you'll find me," she writes.
"I know you'll be thinking that I left you, but it's not true. In a heartbreaking note to Tully, Kate asks her to take care of Johnny and their kids, and to keep their friendship alive through memories. With Kate's bleak future hovering over them, the Firefly Lane girls manage to mend their friendship.īefore Kate dies, she makes one final request of her best friend. Tully is away on a reporting trip in Antarctica when Kate receives her diagnosis, but she rushes home to be with her in the hospital. The author takes her characters' lives down an even darker road when Kate is diagnosed with Stage IV inflammatory breast cancer. If you thought Tully and Kate's story would end with a fight, then you're not familiar with Kristin Hannah's books. She finally realizes that this is the time to reach out to Tully-only to find that her former best friend is in Antarctica for work.
As if that fact alone isn't devastating enough, we also learn that Kate has been diagnosed with cancer. That much is made clear when Johnny proposes to Kate and her first instinct is to tell Tully, even though they're no longer on speaking terms. And for a while, we didn't know why-but just before the part 1 finale, we witness the friendship-ending fight regarding Kate's daughter.įast forward one year, and we see that they're living separate lives, while still secretly missing each other. We've known all along that at some point best friends Tully (Katherine Heigl) and Kate ( Sarah Chalke) go their separate ways. If we remember back to the Firefly Lane season 2 part 1 finale-a good portion of our burning questions were answered! But, we also received an onslaught of new ones. (Now might be a good time to mention that this will contain spoilers, so beware!) And while we're at it, we'll also provide an overview of the Firefly Lane book and how it ends! You know, so we can really dive into the show's accuracy, which might better prepare us for what's to come with the series finale. So, as we prepare to take on Firefly Lane season 2 part 2-which airs on Thursday, April 27-we thought we'd benefit from a brief refresher on everything we know so far. While we love to live vicariously through BFFs Tully and Kate, the Netflix series is coming to a close. But if we're being honest, knowing that something sad is coming doesn't make it any easier to deal with! You probably know by now that Firefly Laneis nearing its' end.
